The Calcutta High Court expressed its anguish over the lackluster role of the government of West Bengal and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation over the illegal constructions on the East Kolkata Wetlands, which is a Ramsar site, despite the court’s multiple orders to dismantle them.

The High Court today ordered to add the government of India to this case and observed that if the state government is unable to dismantle the illegal constructions, then central forces will be instructed to complete the job. Today, the District Magistrate of the South 24 Parganas submitted a report to the Calcutta High Court related to the case. On the other hand, the East Kolkata Wetlands Management Authority informed the court that earlier officials faced protests while trying to disconnect the electricity of the illegal constructions.

The next hearing in this case will take place on the 16th of March.
